While it can be one of the most fulfilling professions in the world, teaching can also simultaneously be one of the most stressful on any professional. This stress is contributing to the current nationwide teacher shortage, as burnout as swept the educational sector. It’s no surprise that after enough physical and mental burden, teachers have had enough. These high turnover rates are contributing to a lessened educational experience for the world’s youth. The world has spent enough time discussing the nature of the teaching profession and the ways in which it should improve. It’s time for action and in the case of teachers and how they can care for themselves throughout their elevated levels of stress, this action comes in the form of self-care. Self-care is a wide umbrella term, including different methods and techniques that teachers can use to alleviate themselves of their stressors both at work and at home. While these methods won’t ensure their classrooms are properly stocked or that the teacher to student ratio is acceptable, they will help in creating some harmony along the way.
